Hello everyone, I am writing this study abroad blog to improve my writing and to share my study abroad experiences with you all. So today it has officially been three weeks since I’ve been in Australia, can you believe it? I sure can’t time is already flying by. I was not sure if I was going to blog because there’s pressure of posting regularly and sharing all the cool exciting adventures you have “on a daily”. I decided my blog can be whatever I want it to be, because it is mine. So let’s rewind to the day I got to Australia or Straya as some might call it. I flew from LAX 15-hour flight, which Thank God I slept for most of. I touched down in Sydney at about 6:45 in the morning and the true study abroad experienced kicked in right there, I had to find my way to the train so I could make my way to campus. After a two trains and one bus I made it on campus greeted by an international lesion . The next few days were me trying to get acclimated to the time difference, new environment and new people. I can say I knew it was going to be a small, countryish town but the culture shock did hit me. I also expected loads of international students that I could travel with ..which turned out to not be the case. Another reason why I didn’t want to blog, I was homesick and down and really not feeling it. I'm taking those feelings head on and sharing it with whoever wants to read. The nice thing about my my exchange experience, ’m fully immersed in Australian culture living in a dorm with people from all over Straya. I’ve met some people in classes and a club and I’m doing whatever I can to keep myself busy; you know me the only I can be. My dorm mates have all been so kind and welcoming, I’ve even been invited home by some which I intend to take them up on that offer before my time here ends. Am I fully not homesick anymore not quite but I’m working on it, navigating my way to decide where I want to travel and when. I even went to Sydney with a few of my dorm mates this past weekend. I’m learning that study abroad isn’t about traveling somewhere cool everyday and posting the perfect picture, its about immersing yourself in a new culture and learning something new. The culture shock is decreasing and I’m finding my way. Till next blog…
